Things unknown . . . .

Okay, anonymous poster's theory (see Comment to previous post) would tie up a LOT of loose ends, but here are some others that I think are interesting:

1. JK has said that it's very important that Harry has his mother's eyes. No idea yet what that could be about. She also said that Lily's wand was especially good for charms.

2. JK has said one important question no one has asked is why Dumbledore had James' invisibility cloak. Was D there the night Harry's parents died??

3. What was with the "gleam of triumph" in D's eyes when Voldie was able to touch Harry without being burned? My guess is that this indicated Voldie had become more human/killable.

4. There was one character that was going to be cut from Movie 5, but JK advised that doing so might create problems for later movies. If you've seen Movie 5, you know that Kreacher is in the movie, but he has no part of the plotline, so everyone is guessing that JK was talking about him. What will Kreacher do in Book 7? I'm wondering if maybe he'll help them find the locket.

5. What will become of Percy?

6. This relates to the Snape-is-connected-to-Lily thing, but why would Voldie have spared Lily?

There's a full list of open questions listed on Mugglenet.

first of all, i had no idea that matt glitters... is that all over or more of a cute acute thing?

second of all, i don't like the idea of there being another anonymous poster... sounds like dean, but whoever it is, be warned, this will play out like the highlander, there can be only one...

to the matter at hand, i'm trying to go back & reread the last book & formulate my postulations as an apostle of formulation, but in the interest of sharing i'll toss out some nebulous, nascent notions that i reserve the right to withdraw or contradict based on my as yet unsubstantiated recollections:

1. i don't think dumbledore is dead... mainly 'cause he's named brian, and brian's are famously hard to get rid of... ask naseem about her blog, she'll tell you... rachel, we talked about this at some length, and his offer to hide draco in death, his shrivelled hand, his obi-wan like refusal to use his wand as snape knocked him out the window, the lack of a corpse (remember harry dragging cedric around?), his roll as a god-like figure, his repeated assertions that snape was good (granted he could have figured a good snape/faithful spy was worth more than a live dumbledore so he could get to the dark lord (i'm a death eather), and the role of fawkes, the phoenix concept, why wouldn't fawkes have shown up & swallered another curse? (interesting irony being that fawkes is the only confirmed "death eather" in that he ate that death curse & chased it with tequila ((get it, Killa?)) in book 5) and the whole funeral and so on... it makes me wonder if the whole order of the phoenix is called that 'cause they're all going to rise up from the ashes, which brings me to:

2. i think there's some kind of good parralel to the horcrux, and that's why harry has lily's eyes, and maybe james's patronus... so maybe a part of their souls reside in him from their sacrifice... but only till he's seventeen, when all human beings rid themselves of their loathsome progenitors... but i digress...

3. i think voldemort maybe thinks harry's a horcrux, and maybe tried to make him one when he killed his parents, but dumbledore had someone like RAB under the invisibility cloak to become the real horcrux in the hope that voldemort would destroy him himself and that harry wouldn't have to be killed to kill voldemort... the problem with this theory is that if dumbledore & RAB were in cahoots you'd have to wonder why the charade in book 6, unless dumbledore wanted to show harry stuff & jack himself up on purpose... or maybe the horcrux was taken out of harry when they took his blood in whatever book that was... and maybe that's why dumbledore had the look of triumph later, or maybe dumbledore had just succeeded is suppressing some gas, which is exceedingly difficult for old folks with worn-out prostates... final point on this: regalus is synonymous with basilisk, of which the green basilisk, or jesus christ lizard, is the most famous, for it's ability to run on water... if you've ever seen this, it should make for a funny image if we ever see regalus doing this to get the horcrux before harry & dumbledore in a flashback portrayed on the big screen... i digress again...

4. i think snape will sacrifice himself to kill voldemort, or so harry can kill voldemort, and i think maybe snape was under the invisibility cloak and was the horcrux at lily & james' murder... it would make redemptive sacrifice sense, he's got the dark mark, it would explain his bad attitude if he's known all along he'd be called upon to make the sacrifice, and i assume it's love or blood kinship to lily that would be his motivator... the problem with harry killing voldemort would be "murder", which shatters the soul of the murderer... so maybe snape after all... did the prophecy say kill or defeat? need to look closer...

5. i figure there's some kind of a horcrux creation maybe tied into the cedric diggory murder, but i've got to go back & look... it was voldemort who killed him, right?

did dumbledore tell harry nagini was a horcrux?

when was voldemort going to spare lily?

i don't even have half the books so i'm screwed on research... shouldn't lexis-nexis have them available online with citations & shepardizing?

i'll try to get back to this after i look up what i can, and continue to enjoy everyone's theories...

i don't think harry, ron, hermione or ginny will die... and i do think serius is coming back, i don't even think he's dead, but maybe under deep cover... i think snape, and voldemort, they're two of the main characters, let's be rid of them...

big love,

albus

My! What delicious HP dialogue we have going on here. I would like to add my own 2 thoughts to this panel and stop there as one can go on and on: I think there are 2 important JK/D principals that will play major roles in the finale. One is Dumbledore's belief in the power of love. This is why he trusts Snape so completely. It is love that has made Snape so commited to bringing V to an end AND love that makes it so hard to look at Harry. He has Lily's eyes and that painful reminder has made him cruel to Harry, as well as dedicated to protecting him. The other principal is death vs/ immortality. I think this is a most important idea that will secure Harry's survival and V's downfall. Harry does not fear death and in many cases would have chosen his own death over the lose of others unlike V who believes death to be a terrible weakness. Harry will survive b/c for him there a greater sacrifices than his own life.

p.s. As a dedicated optamist and romantic I must say that Ron and Hermione will both survive. JK has put a lot of work into their relationship and will not simply turn them into Romeo and Juliet. No way!

I second the question - when did V ever think to spare Lily?

I think Dumbledore genuinely died. In fact, I think he was sort of planning to die all along. As in, he knew, KNEW, that Snape had been locked into the Unbreakable Vow, and he KNEW Snape had to be the one to kill him, because he desperately didn't want DRACO to kill him. That whole scene, which I've read like five times, never has Dumbledore fighting against DEATH, only Dumbledore fighting against Draco taking that irrevocable step of killing him.

I mean, sure, I think Dumbledore wouldn't have minded Draco stepping back from it and letting him live. But he knew that Snape needed to do it, once Snape arrived on the scene, and I really believe in all my rereadings that when he pleads, "Severus", it's because he wants and needs Snape to go through with it. For reasons I guess he alone understands.

Also, if you look at the hero story standard, Harry needs to go forth on his own. Dumbledore was, as I think he puts it, his last and most powerful protector, the very last person who'd be there standing between him and his destiny, out of love. All the people that have stood in front of Harry are now gone, which means it's his turn. I think this is pretty important, and would be somewhat cheapened if Dumbledore was just hiding in a bush somewhere.

So, err, yeah. Dumbledore dead! Is what I say.

Percy was also in the 5th movie and didn't do much for the plot.

this speculation is all very amusing to look back on after finishing the book. it's nice to have closure, but in away, its too bad its all over. no more speculation, no more suspense. unless, of course, for those that are ultra-die-hard-nerds that will continue to dissect and question HP for years to come

I have another suspect for the character JK Rowling insisted on keeping... but I didn't even notice he was in there until I watched the movie again, post-HP7.
